Celebrating Juneteenth at the Rondo Commemorative Plaza
ReConnect Rondo was proud to join community members, partners, and local organizations at this year's Juneteenth Celebration at the Rondo Commemorative Plaza. The event brought together families, vendors, and neighbors to honor freedom, celebrate Black culture, and reflect on the resilience and legacy of the Rondo community.
| | | |
Throughout the day, our team connected with residents, shared updates about our work, and invited attendees to leave their mark on a community canvas featuring the historic Rondo neighborhood. Community members of all ages added color, creativity, and personal touches to the artwork, creating a collective expression of pride, connection, and hope for Rondo's future.
We are grateful to everyone who stopped by our booth and to the organizers and volunteers who made this meaningful community gathering possible. Events like Juneteenth remind us of the importance of preserving history, uplifting community voices, and continuing the work of building a more equitable future for generations to come.

Knock, Knock...Rondo’s Calling!
We’re gearing up for a community door knocking campaign happening July 15–17, and we’re looking for volunteers to join us in the effort. This is a hands-on way to connect directly with neighbors in the Rondo area, share updates about ongoing work, and help spread the word about what’s ahead.
Before we head out, all volunteers will take part in a training session to make sure everyone feels prepared and confident for conversations in the community. And as a thank you for showing up and showing love, each volunteer will receive a free, super cool Rondo t-shirt.
If you’ve been looking for a way to get involved, this is your moment to step in and be part of the momentum on the ground.
New Community Spotlight SeriesNominations are Open
| |
We’re launching a new Community Spotlight series to highlight the people who make Rondo what it is today—and those shaping what comes next. This is your chance to nominate local leaders, business owners, consultants, neighbors, and community members who are making an impact and deserve to be recognized. We want to hear from you: who in Rondo is showing up, doing the work, and helping move the community forward?
Alongside community nominations, we’ll also be shining a light on members of our technical team—the planners, researchers, and partners behind the studies that help guide this work. Their expertise plays a key role in turning community vision into actionable plans.
Submit your nominations and help us celebrate the people behind the progress.

Project UpdateLaying the Groundwork for What's Next
As part of the NEPA process, our technical team has drafted the Purpose & Need (P&N) statement—an early but essential step that explains why the project is being proposed and the specific transportation, connectivity, and infrastructure challenges it is intended to address.
We’re sharing this update to keep the community informed and transparent about how decisions are being shaped at each stage of the process. The P&N is not a final decision—it’s a guiding document that helps define the problem we’re working to solve and ensures that future options are evaluated consistently and fairly.
This step is especially important because it sets the foundation for developing and reviewing design alternatives. In other words, it helps determine what solutions will be studied moving forward, making it a key part of how technical analysis and community priorities come together in the planning process.
